Case Summary
The WRC undertook its compliance assessment of SMC pursuant its role as the independent monitor for the City and County of San Francisco, California. The WRC, with the support of the Fundacion Laboral Dominicana, conducted offsite interviews and, in September 2013, visited the factory to carry out an onsite inspection of the factory, meet with management and review documentary evidence. The WRC’s assessment at SMC found violations in the areas of wages and hours, statutory paid time off, maternity benefits and occupational health and safety.
