Re:WRC Report on Mexmode, S.A. de C.V. (Mexico)

The WRC recently conducted an investigation at the Mexmode facility in Puebla, Mexico, following allegations of violence against workers and government interference in the internal affairs of the union at the facility. Our report on the case, which details the WRC’s findings and recommendations, is available here. The report’s introduction provides the necessary background regarding recent events at this factory, which is well-known as the site of a significant labor rights breakthrough in 2001 — which occurred, in part, as a result of university codes of conduct and efforts by the university community.

As the report makes clear, the labor rights violations outlined are not the responsibility of factory management or of the factory’s buyers – although there are important steps both the management and the buyers can take to help ensure a positive resolution.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the report.
